Travel and Lodging

This page will summarize basic conference information (dates, times, locations), as well as transportation and lodging options. I’ll keep it as up-to-date as possible. If there are questions I haven’t answered, please leave a comment or email me at IALLT2011  at  iallt  dot  org.

Conference Dates: June 21-25, 2011

See this post for a map showing UCI’s general location.

TRANSPORTATION

By Air

The best airport to fly into is John Wayne/Orange County/Santa Ana (airport code: SNA). Our hotel has a free shuttle to and from the airport, and is just blocks away. Long Beach airport (LGB) is about 20 miles north, and is good if you’re flying Jet Blue. I do not recommend flying into Los Angeles International (LAX) unless you really can’t help it. Often, the fare is lower into LAX than SNA; however, the hassle and cost of getting from LA to Orange County is usually not worth it. You will pay at least $40 each way for a shuttle, and it will take up to 2 hours each way depending on the time of day. If your flight is $100-$150 more into SNA, it’s worth it. SNA is currently building a new, third terminal and serves most major airlines.

Car rentals are available at SNA, but you shouldn’t need a car during the conference. You may want to rent one to do some sightseeing before or after the conference. We’ll have a free shuttle available between the hotel and the campus.

The best way to get from the airport (SNA) to the dorms is by taxi. The ride will be approximately 4 miles, and will cost $13-$16. Give this address to the taxi driver: 4057 Mesa Court, Irvine, CA 92697.

By Car

UC Irvine is located off the 405 freeway, from either the Culver or Jamboree exits. Click here to access UCI’s official Campus Maps page, which includes links to PDFs with driving directions and parking information. The closest general parking area for access to SLM and IALLT2011 activities is the Mesa Parking Structure, near the corner of Mesa Road and University Drive. If you will be driving and staying in the dorms, parking must be arranged in advance to keep your car on campus overnight.

By Train

The Irvine Transportation Center is located approximately 9 miles from campus and serves Amtrak and Metrolink trains. You’ll need to take a bus or taxi (taxi will be expensive) to the campus or hotel. Bus routes can be found on the Orange County Transportation Authority website.

    Hi,
Forgive me if it’s listed and I’m not seeing it, but what is the contact information for the on-campus housing?

    Thank youj!

Answered via email but I’ll post it here, too. I am handling all of the reservations for dorms, which are paid for along with conference registration. Please do not contact campus housing directly, because they won’t be able to help you.
